Common questions

Where are my recordings kept?

On your iPhone, and in your own iCloud if you turn on sync in Minta. Recordings, transcriptions and write-ups stay there until you delete them, and they can be included in your iPhone backups. Minta keeps no copy on a server, so I can’t bring back a recording you deleted. The details are on the privacy page.

How do I delete my Minta Cloud account? What happens to my credit?

In Minta, go to Settings › Minta Cloud › Delete account, and confirm with Apple. Your account and its data on Minta’s server are deleted; your recordings stay on your iPhone.

Any credit you have left is lost and can’t be recovered, and so are any free write-ups left from the trial: a new account doesn’t get a new free trial. If you only want to stop using Minta Cloud, choose Sign out instead — it keeps your account and credit for when you sign in again.

I paid, but the credit isn’t there.

Once Apple has charged you, Minta adds the credit automatically, without charging you again. Usually it’s enough to close and reopen Minta. If it says “Sign in again to receive your credit”, sign in with Apple and the credit arrives on its own. If it still hasn’t arrived after that, write to dan@trova.me with the date of the purchase.

What does “Processing on the server…” mean?

Your audio or text has reached Minta Cloud and the server is working on it, so it can no longer be stopped: it is already being paid for.

If iOS interrupts Minta or the connection drops, reopen Minta once you’re online: it asks for the same result again, without charging you twice. The server holds the result in memory for up to 15 minutes for exactly this, then deletes it. If Minta tells you a result was lost and you were charged for it, write to dan@trova.me.

Which languages can Minta transcribe? Does it happen on my iPhone?

Sixteen languages: Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English (US and UK), French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. Choose yours in Settings › Transcription.

Yes: transcription happens only on your iPhone, with Apple’s speech recognition. The first time you use a language, the iPhone downloads its model from Apple, with none of your data. It can take a while: the recording waits, and Minta transcribes it on its own as soon as the model arrives. If your iPhone can’t transcribe a language at all, Minta tells you and offers Minta Cloud Whisper.

With Minta Cloud, after your first credit purchase, you can also choose Minta Cloud Whisper: transcription on the server, paid from your credit, and useful in noisy rooms or with quiet voices. It takes recordings up to 3 hours.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases go through Apple, and so do refunds: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with your Apple Account. I can’t issue refunds myself.
